Our
Association exists for it's members; those who served in all eras through the
life of the USS Southerland. From the 'PLANKOWNERS' who boarded her and breathed
life into her back in 1944, and then in 1950-1953, the crew that she brought
thru Korea and again in 1964 the crew that was with her during the FRAM
overhaul, breathed new life into her Then down through the decades until she was
decommissioned in 1981 as the Navy's oldest active Gearing class destroyer (at
that time).
This
website serves as a portal for those who remember and keep alive the historic
past that was the Southerland's.
